Certificate in Supervisory Management

The Certificate In Supervisory Management is designed to meet the registration requirements for supervisors and team leaders in Health, Housing and Social Care settings. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will have achieved 18 credits at SCQF Level 9:

HSC411 Manage a service which meets the best possible outcomes for the individual

HSC451 Lead teams to support a quality provision

There are two versions of this course depending on the level of knowledge of management and leadership theory of individual candidates.

Version 1: Taught Course

SCOTVQ recognises that many supervisors and team leaders will not feel confident about their knowledge of management theory. This version of the Certificate In Supervisory Management is designed to ensure that candidates are able to develop their knowledge in a supportive learning context. Candidates attend a series of seminars which are tutored by experienced and supportive SCOTVQ staff. Each seminar focuses on a core topic for which there is a set piece of pre-reading. The reading will introduce some of the key themes of each seminar. During the seminar the tutor will explain particular aspects of theory and encourage questioning of ideas. Tutors will also facilitate small group discussions and help candidates to consider how theory can inform and improve practice. After the series of seminars candidates undertake a work based project in which they apply what they have learnt about supporting and leading a team and continuing professional development.

Version 2: Open Learning Programme

This version of the award is designed for two different sorts of candidates. It will allow those candidates with good knowledge and understanding of leadership and management theory to achieve the award in a cost effective manner. Secondly, it will enable those candidates who wish to study independently and have previously achieved educational qualifications at SCQF level 8 or 9.
All candidates are provided with an on-line tutor but will work independently and be able to meet specified deadlines with minimum support. Candidates will undertake a work based project to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in leading and managing a team and ensuring continuing professional development.

Version 1: Taught Course £550
Version 2: Open Learning Programme £300
The Certificate In Supervisory Management course is expected to be eligible for ILA Scotland funding of up to £200 towards the costs.
The Certificate fully meets the requirements set out by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
